Genre: poetry
Word Count: 142

In his head, there are explosions.
He thinks they’re demons.
Everybody has demons.
Why should he be any different?
He thinks their demons
sometimes fall dead silent.
Why should he be any different
even if that silence isn’t demon enough?
His don’t sometimes fall silent;
they spring up shrieking
because the silence isn’t demon enough.
His demons explode, aren’t silent.
They spring up screaming
when he picks up the phone.
His demons explode and fall silent
when he is asked on a date.
When he picks up the phone
he feels as peace with her voice
so he agrees to a date.
She asks about his sister who is far away.
He feels at peace with her voice.
In his head, there are explosions.
She is silent about her brother who is long dead.
Everybody has demons.
